Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Explore hidden gems such as Duomo di Orvieto and Santa Maria in Trastevere. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Colosseum and Vatican Museums. Step out of Rome to go to Marmore and see Cascata delle Marmore, which is approximately 1h 25 min away. There's still lots to do: make a trip to Piazza Navona, ponder the design of Trevi Fountain, delve into the distant past at Palatine Hill, and admire the striking features of Pantheon.

You can take a train from Florence to Rome in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or fly. In July in Rome, expect temperatures between 89°F during the day and 70°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Tue) early enough to travel to Venice.

Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Basilica di Sant’Antonio and Castello Estense. Piazza San Marco and Scrovegni Chapel are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Getting from Rome to Venice by flight takes about 3.5 hours. Other options: take a train; or drive. In July, daily temperatures in Venice can reach 87°F, while at night they dip to 67°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 10th (Fri) so you can go by car to Lucerne.
