Kagoshima sits across the bay from Sakurajima, an active volcano that serves as a symbol of the city and works its way into many aspects of life here.
Kick off your visit on the 1st (Sun): explore the world behind art at Nagashima Museum, then get impressive views of Sakurajima, and then pause for some photo ops at Saigo Takamori Statue. Keep things going the next day: enjoy breathtaking views from Shiroyama Observatory, go for a walk through Sengan-en, then get engrossed in the history at Museum of the Meiji Restoration, and finally get engrossed in the history at Chiran Peace Museum.

Singapore, Singapore to Kagoshima is an approximately 11-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone changes from Singapore Time to Japan Standard Time, which is usually a 1 hour difference. Plan for cooler temperatures traveling from Singapore in November, with highs in Kagoshima at 20°C and lows at 10°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Mon) so you can catch the train to Kumamoto.

Getting from Kagoshima to Kumamoto by train takes about an hour. Other options: drive; or take a bus. December in Kumamoto sees daily highs of 12°C and lows of 3°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Tue) so you can catch the train to Beppu.

Take a train from Kumamoto to Beppu in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Expect a daytime high around 13°C in December, and nighttime lows around 6°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 5th (Thu) early enough to go by car to Nagasaki.
