The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Bring the kids along to Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Kinkaku-ji. Venture out of the city with trips to Dotombori District (in Dotombori) and Osaka (Universal Studios Japan, Tobita Shinchi, &more). The adventure continues: contemplate the long history of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sanjusangendo Temple, take in the pleasant sights at Gion, and explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle.

Singapore, Singapore to Kyoto is an approximately 11-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. Traveling from Singapore to Kyoto, you'll lose 1 hour due to the time zone difference. Expect cooler temperatures when traveling from Singapore in December; daily highs in Kyoto reach 13°C and lows reach 4°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Koya-cho.

Traveling by car from Kyoto to Koya-cho takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and taxi; or take a train. In December in Koya-cho, expect temperatures between 13°C during the day and 7°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Sun) so you can drive to Kumano.
