Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Visiting Mt. Takao and Enoshima Island will get you outdoors. Do some cultural sightseeing at Tokyo National Museum and Edo-Tokyo Museum. Change things up with these side-trips from Tokyo: Yokohama (Yokohama Zoo ''Zoorasia'' & Nogeyama Zoo), Chiba Zoological Park (in Chiba) and Pola Museum of Art (in Hakone-machi). A smaller metropolis near Osaka, Suita remains best known for hosting the World's Fair in 1970.
Here are some ideas for day two: examine the collection at CUPNOODLES MUSEUM OSAKA IKEDA, take in the spiritual surroundings of Tada Shrine, take in the dramatic scenery at Waterfall of Mino, then brush up on your knowledge of spirits at Suntory Yamazaki Distillery, then go for a walk through Yamadaike Park, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Shuonan Ikkyuji Temple.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
On the 2nd (Sun), contemplate the waterfront views at Kamogawa River, wander the streets of Gion, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, then take some stellar pictures from Mt. Kurama, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Shimogamo Jinja. On your second day here, wander the streets of Pontocho, contemplate the long history of Sanjusangendo Temple, steep yourself in history at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kinkaku-ji, and finally admire the natural beauty at Shosei-en Garden.
