On the 21st (Tue), wander the streets of Odaiba and then take a stroll through Ginza. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: make a trip to Takeshita Street, take in the spiritual surroundings of Senso-ji Temple, and then shop like a local with Asakusa.

Sitting at the foot of Mount Fuji, Hakone-machi has become a popular retreat from Tokyo for locals and tourists alike.
Start off your visit on the 23rd (Thu): admire the masterpieces at The Hakone Open-Air Museum, contemplate the long history of Hakone Shrine / Kuzuryu Shrine Singu, then contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Ashi (Ashinoko), and finally make a trip to Owaku-dani Valley.

Traveling by combination of train and bus from Tokyo to Hakone-machi takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Expect little chillier weather when traveling from Tokyo in January: highs in Hakone-machi hover around 5°C, while lows dip to 3°C. You'll have a few hours on the 24th (Fri) to wrap things up before traveling to Kyoto.

Visit Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Ginkakuji Temple for their historical value. Do some cultural sightseeing at Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Gion. There's much more to do: step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, look for all kinds of wild species at Yase Momiji no Komichi, steep yourself in history at Sanjusangendo Temple, and buy something for everyone on your list at Kyoto Station Building.

Traveling by train from Hakone-machi to Kyoto takes 4 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of flight and train. When traveling from Hakone-machi in January, plan for a bit warmer days in Kyoto, with highs around 10°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 1°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 27th (Mon) so you can catch the train to Osaka.

Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Dotonbori and Osaka Castle. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street and Minami (Namba). Go for a jaunt from Osaka to Chuo to see Nankinmachi (Kobe Chinatown) about 42 minutes away. It doesn't end there: get outside with Eeyan.
