The country's smallest city in terms of population, Kilkenny boasts a rich cultural heritage and diverse tourist attractions that include well-preserved medieval architecture, exciting nightlife, a vibrant culinary scene, and abundant shopping opportunities.
Museum-lovers will get to explore Irish National Heritage Park and Hook Lighthouse. King John's Castle and St. Canice's Cathedral & Round Tower are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get out of town with these interesting Kilkenny side-trips: The Twin Churches: Church of the Assumption and Church of the Immaculate Conception (in Wexford), Curracloe Beach (in Curracloe) and Rock of Cashel (in Cashel). There's still lots to do: step into the grandiose world of Kilkenny Castle and contemplate the long history of Ferns Castle.

Continuously inhabited since the Neolithic period, Killarney draws visitors with its picturesque natural scenery, fine restaurants, and traditional pubs.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Inch Beach and Ross Castle. Get outdoors at Garinish Island and Gap of Dunloe. Get out of town with these interesting Killarney side-trips: Kenmare (Blackwater Woodturners, Templenoe Burial, & more). There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Muckross Abbey, admire the sheer force of Torc Waterfall, and cruise along Ring of Kerry.

Traveling by car from Kilkenny to Killarney takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. In July in Killarney, expect temperatures between 65°F during the day and 56°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 3rd (Sat) to allow time to take a train to Dublin.
