The popular town of Husavik not only boasts some of Iceland's best whale-watching opportunities but is arguably the northeast coast's prettiest town.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Mt. Namafjall (Namaskard) and Krafla Lava Fields. Get some cultural insight at The Húsavík Whale Museum and Husavikurkirkja. Take a break from Husavik with a short trip to Hafragilsfoss in Vatnajokull National Park, about 1h 20 min away. And it doesn't end there: take in the dramatic scenery at Hverfjall, explore the striking landscape at Hverir, go for a walk through Viti Crater, and contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Myvatn.

Traveling by combination of flight and bus from Reykjavik to Husavik takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In July, daytime highs in Husavik are 16°C, while nighttime lows are 9°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Mon) to allow enough time to travel to Vik.

Iceland's southernmost village, Vik, sports some of the country's wildest and most dramatic coastline.
Kick off your visit on the 14th (Tue): trot along with a tour on horseback, then explore the striking landscape at Mýrdalsjökull, then take in the dramatic natural features at Sólheimajökulll, and finally take an in-depth tour of Skogar Museum.
