A gateway to the island, Hakodate has gained a reputation for its waterfront attractions, its proximity to some of the island's most popular natural sites, and its seafood.
Get outdoors at Hotokegaura and Hotokegaura Parking. Get some cultural insight at Onuma Park Walking Path and Motomachi. Change things up with these side-trips from Hakodate: Trappist Monasteries (in Hokuto) and Onuma Lake (in Nanae-cho). Kick off your visit on the 6th (Sat): take in the spiritual surroundings of Hokkaido Jingu, then tour the pleasant surroundings at Mt. Okura Observatory, and then take some stellar pictures from Mt. Moiwa. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 9th (Tue): explore the striking landscape of Shiretoko Nature Center, then take a memorable drive along Shiretoko Pass, and then take in the awesome beauty at Mt. Rausu.

You can do a combination of flight and taxi from Sapporo to Shari-cho in 4 hours. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of flight and train. Traveling from Sapporo in July, expect slightly colder with lows of 19°C in Shari-cho. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 9th (Tue) early enough to drive to Teshikaga-cho.
