Admire the temples and shrines of Kurume, a small, compact town situated on the Chikushi Plain, known for its local products, such as an indigo woven fabric, bamboo lacquerware, and pork ramen.
On the 11th (Fri), steep yourself in history at Dazaifu Government Remains, take in the spiritual surroundings of Komyozen-ji Temple, then make a trip to Dazaifu Monzen Machi, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kamado Shrine. Keep things going the next day: see the interesting displays at Ishibashi Bunka Center, admire the masterpieces at Ishibashi Cultural Center, and then steep yourself in history at Akizuki Castle Remains.

You can drive from Kurume to Itoshima in 1.5 hours. Traveling from Kurume in January, Itoshima is a bit cooler at night with lows of 2°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 17th (Thu) early enough to go by car to Munakata.
