One of the hippest urban centers in the northeastern part of the country, Newcastle upon Tyne once had a reputation for being an industrial wasteland with little to offer casual tourists.
Popular historic sites such as Jedburgh Abbey and Mary Queen of Scots' Visitor Centre are in your itinerary. Museum-lovers will appreciate Jedburgh Castle Jail and Museum and Killhope Lead Mining Museum. Venture out of the city with trips to Church of Saint Aidan Bamburgh (in Bamburgh) and The Parish Church of Saint Mary the Virgin (in Holy Island).
