Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Family-friendly places like Mount Wellington and Cascades Female Factory Historic Site will thrill your kids. Step out of Hobart to go to Brighton and see Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, which is approximately 30 minutes away. There's much more to do: examine the collection at Museum of Old and New Art (Mona), buy something for everyone on your list at Cat and Fiddle Arcade, admire the landmark architecture of Constitution Dock, and admire the masterpieces at Lady Franklin Gallery.

For more things to do, ratings, other places to visit, and tourist information, refer to the Hobart trip planning app.

Sydney to Hobart is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry. Plan for little chillier temperatures traveling from Sydney in April, with highs in Hobart at °C and lows at °C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 15th (Wed) early enough to go by car to Port Arthur.
