Pearl of the Orient

With a nickname like the "Pearl of the Orient," it's not surprising Shanghai offers some of the most rewarding attractions and activities in the Far East.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum and Old Town (Nanshi). Get some cultural insight at The Bund (Wai Tan) and Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Centre. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Shanghai: Suzhou (Suzhou Ancient Grand Canal & Jinji Lake). And it doesn't end there: admire the striking features of Jade Buddha Temple, make a trip to Heping Fandian, see the interesting displays at Shanghai Museum (Shanghai Bowuguan), and wander the streets of Former French Concession.

Vancouver, Canada to Shanghai is an approximately 15-hour flight. You'll lose 16 hours traveling from Vancouver to Shanghai due to the time zone difference. Prepare for somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Vancouver in October: high temperatures in Shanghai hover around 28°C and lows are around 19°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 17th (Wed) early enough to catch the flight to Yueqing.

The city of Yueqing is known primarily for its proximity to the Yandang mountains, a coastal mountain range that lies to the north of the city.
On the 18th (Thu), take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mid Yandang Mountain.

Getting from Shanghai to Yueqing by flight takes about 3 hours. Other options: drive; or take a train. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 18th (Thu) to allow enough time to fly to Beijing.

As the political and cultural capital of China, Beijing stands at the heart of Chinese history, buzzing with the energy of its high population density and centuries of importance.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Silk Street & Pearl Market (Xiushui) and Panjiayuan Antique Market. Discover out-of-the-way places like Tian'anmen and The Place. There's much more to do: take an in-depth tour of The Palace Museum, get a taste of the local shopping with Taikoo Li Sanlitun, stop by Nanluoguxiang, and enjoy breathtaking views from Bell and Drum Towers.

Traveling by flight from Yueqing to Beijing takes 4 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. October in Beijing sees daily highs of 22°C and lows of 8°C at night. You will have some time to spend on the 23rd (Tue) before leaving for home.
