Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Kick off your visit on the 23rd (Fri): admire the masterpieces at Museu Serralves, explore the world behind art at Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis, then steep yourself in history at Palacio da Bolsa, then take in the views from Ponte de Dom Luis I, and finally appreciate the history behind Monumento aos Herois da Guerra Peninsular. Keep things going the next day: surround yourself with nature on a nature and wildlife tour, take in the spiritual surroundings of Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral), and then take in the exciting artwork at Belomonte 20.

Visiting Dolphin & Whale Watching and Cabanas de Tavira beach will get you outdoors. We've included these beaches for you: Garrao Nascente Beach and Praia Monte Gordo. Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Belém Tower and Mosteiro dos Jeronimos are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Castelo de S. Jorge and Igreja de Sao Roque will appeal to history buffs. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Lisbon: Sintra (Park and National Palace of Pena, Quinta da Regaleira, & more). There's still lots to do: examine the collection at Museu Nacional do Azulejo, get engrossed in the history at Carmo Archaeological Museum, and admire the masterpieces at Museu Calouste Gulbenkian.

Traveling by car from Lagos to Lisbon takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of bus and flight.
