Kick off your visit on the 11th (Thu): take a stroll through Takeshita Street, then make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine, then ponder the world of politics at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings, and finally admire the striking features of Tokyo Tower. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: look for gifts at Stockplus, wander the streets of Ginza, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Sensō-ji, and finally wander the streets of Asakusa.

Sydney, Australia to Tokyo is an approximately 12.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone changes from Australian Eastern Standard Time (New South Wales) to Japan Standard Time, which is usually a -1 hour difference. Traveling from Sydney in July, expect Tokyo to be much hotter, temps between 36°C and 27°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 12th (Fri) to allow enough time to drive to Shimoda.

On a trip to Shimoda, a small town nestled on the tip of the Izu peninsula, you can take advantage of the scenic sandy beaches and soak in the laid-back atmosphere.
Start off your visit on the 13th (Sat): kick back and relax at Kisami Ohama Beach, then enjoy the sand and surf at Tatadohama Beach, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Inatori Ukiuki Beach. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: enjoy the sand and surf at Tagosehama Beach and then kick back and relax at Otago Beach.

Traveling by car from Tokyo to Shimoda takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train. Traveling from Tokyo in July, expect nights in Shimoda to be about the same, around 28°C, while days are slightly colder, around 32°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Sun) early enough to take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Dotonbori and Nishiki Market. Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine will appeal to history buffs. Take a break from Kyoto with a short trip to Osaka Castle in Osaka, about 1h 10 min away. There's lots more to do: explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle, contemplate the long history of Sanjusangendo Temple, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Ryoanji Temple, and don't miss a visit to Heian Shrine.

You can take a train from Shimoda to Kyoto in 4.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of train and flight. When traveling from Shimoda in July, plan for a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Kyoto: temperatures range from 37°C by day to 28°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Wed) so you can travel to Ishigaki.

You can do a combination of train and flight from Kyoto to Ishigaki in 6 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. Traveling from Kyoto in July, Ishigaki is somewhat warmer at night with lows of 32°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 18th (Thu) so you can travel to Miyakojima.
