Grapple with history and appreciate modernity in Hiroshima, a city known around the world for its tragic past and inspiring rebirth.
Start off your visit on the 6th (Sat): contemplate the waterfront views at Motoyasu River, appreciate the history behind Bugaku Ranryoo Statue, head off the coast to Miyajima, tour the pleasant surroundings at Mikasahama Beach, then contemplate the long history of Itsukushima Shrine, and finally steep yourself in history at Itsukushima Shrine Torii. On your second day here, take a leisurely stroll along Hiroshima Port, then see the interesting displays at JMSDF Kure Museum, then explore the activities along Setonaikai, and finally snap pictures at Kintaikyo Bridge.

Chennai, India to Hiroshima is an approximately 13.5-hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly; or do a combination of car and ferry. You'll lose 3 hours traveling from Chennai to Hiroshima due to the time zone difference. When traveling from Chennai in July, plan for little chillier days and about the same nights in Hiroshima: temperatures range from 36°C by day to 28°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Sun) so you can take a train to Himeji.

The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Start off your visit on the 8th (Mon): contemplate the long history of Yoneda Taishiji Temple, get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Himeji City Aquarium, buy something for everyone on your list at Piole Himeji, then don't miss a visit to Viewing Deck, Himeji Station Square, then stroll through Sunken Garden, Castle Garden, and finally stroll around Tegarayama Central Park.

You can take a train from Hiroshima to Himeji in an hour. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of bus and train. July in Himeji sees daily highs of 33°C and lows of 29°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 8th (Mon) to allow enough time to take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kyoto: Sakurai (Anashinimasuhyozu Shrine & Makimuku Old Tomb), Tairakuji Temple (in Tawaramoto-cho) and Kudara-ji Temple (in Koryo-cho).

Traveling by train from Himeji to Kyoto takes an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Himeji in July, expect nights in Kyoto to be about the same, around 28°C, while days are somewhat warmer, around 37°C. On the 11th (Thu), you'll travel to Urayasu.
