On the bank of the Mtkvari River and at the foot of Trialeti mountain range, Tbilisi's location has given the city strategic significance since it was founded in the 5th century.
Old Town (Altstadt) Tbilisi and Narikala Fortress are good opportunities to explore the local culture. You'll explore and learn at Stalin Museum and Georgian National Museum. Get out of town with these interesting Tbilisi side-trips: Mtskheta (Jvari Church, Mtskheta Church of the Holy Cross, &more) and Ananuri Fortified Castle Ensemble (in Ananuri). There's much more to do: take a memorable drive along Rustaveli Avenue, see the interesting displays at Open Air Museum of Ethnography, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Surb Nshan Church of the Holy Sign, and snap pictures at The Bridge of Peace.

Kvareli is a town in northeastern in Kakheti Province, Georgia. Get some historical perspective at Bodbe Monastery of St. Nino and Gremi Citadel and Church of the Archangels. Get a sense of the local culture at Chubini Wine Cellar and VELLINO Wine Cellar. Change things up with a short trip to Monument Father of the Soldier in Gurjaani (about 32 minutes away). Next up on the itinerary: do a tasting at Chelti Winery and get engrossed in the history at Gremi.
