The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Your day by day itinerary now includes Yamaya Factory Tour. Get out of town with these interesting Fukuoka side-trips: Kumamoto (Sakuranobaba Johsaien, Kumamoto Castle, &more), Dazaifu (Tenkai Inari Shrine, Dazaifu Tenman-gu, &more) and Onojo - Chikuzenkoku (in Onojo). There's lots more to do: go for a walk through Ohori Park, contemplate the long history of Nanzoin, browse the different shops at Tenjin Underground Shopping Center, and admire the striking features of Hakata Station.
