Get out of town with these interesting Innsbruck side-trips: Ischgl-Samnaun ski area (in Ischgl), St Anthony of Padua (in St. Anton am Arlberg) and Serfaus Fiss Ladis (in Fiss). There's much more to do: take an in-depth tour of The Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl), fly down the slopes at Rosshutte, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Dom zu St. Jakob, and steep yourself in history at Altstadt von Innsbruck.

Much of the country's territory sits in the heart of the mountainous Austrian Alps, making the region a prime spot for trekking, skiing, or cozying up in a mountain resort. The mountain range makes Austria, along with Switzerland, the winter sports capital of Europe. Though the Alps are most famous for hosting a wealth of ski resorts for visitors of all skill levels, regional tourism is growing, capitalizing on the appeal of outdoor recreation during all seasons. Visitors flock to the Alps for hiking, golf, biking, and whitewater kayaking in addition to skiing.
