11 days in Turku & Kuusamo Itinerary

Sitting at the mouth of the Aura River, Turku is one of Finland's quaintest and most historically rich towns.

Escape the urban bustle at Bellevue Beach and Nuuksio National Park. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Tulliniemi Nature Path and Ispoinen Beach and Sauna. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Turku: Teijo national park (in Pernio), Mathildedalin Kylapanimo (in Salo) and Raseborg (Ekenas Old Town, Hagen - Ramsholmen - Hogholmen, & more). If you are flying in from Germany, the closest major airport is Turku Airport. January in Turku sees daily highs of -3°C and lows of -9°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Fri) early enough to travel back home.

Kuusamo is a town and municipality in Finland. On the 8th (Sat), hit the slopes at Ruka, then take in breathtaking views at Kiutakongas Rapids, and then look for gifts at Shopping Center Kumpare. Here are some ideas for day two: take in the dramatic natural features at Julma Olkky and then look for all kinds of wild species at The Predator Center in Kuusamo.

You can fly from Turku to Kuusamo in 4.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of train and flight; or drive. Expect a bit cooler temperatures when traveling from Turku in February; daily highs in Kuusamo reach -5°C and lows reach -12°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 10th (Mon) to allow time for travel back home.
