Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Port Arthur Historic Site and Constitution Dock. Escape the urban bustle at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary and Mount Wellington. Take a break from Hobart with a short trip to Cockle Creek in Southport, about 1h 25 min away. There's lots more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Seven Mile Beach, tour the pleasant surroundings at Nutgrove Beach, admire the masterpieces at Lady Franklin Gallery, and contemplate the long history of Cascades Female Factory Historic Site.

Melbourne to Hobart is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also do a combination of ferry and car; or do a combination of ferry and bus. In June, daily temperatures in Hobart can reach 15°C, while at night they dip to 5°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Thu) so you can go by car to Coles Bay.

Overlooking one of Tasmania's most scenic strips of coastline and serving as the gateway to Freycinet National Park, Coles Bay is home to just 500 permanent residents.
Start off your visit on the 2nd (Thu): get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, then trek along Wineglass Bay Lookout, and then visit a coastal fixture at Cape Tourville Lighthouse.
