Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
You'll get in some beach time at Cockle Creek and Kingston Beach. Head to Salamanca Market and Cat and Fiddle Arcadefor some retail therapy. Venture out of the city with trips to Pressing Matters (in Richmond) and Port Arthur Historic Site (in Port Arthur). There's much more to do: identify plant and animal life at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, kick back and relax at Seven Mile Beach, learn about winemaking at Moorilla Estate Winery, and steep yourself in history at Constitution Dock.

Sydney to Hobart is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry. Expect slightly colder temperatures when traveling from Sydney in April; daily highs in Hobart reach 21°C and lows reach 9°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Coles Bay.
