The 2013 European "Capital of Culture," Marseille is the largest port city on the breezy Mediterranean coast and the second largest city in France.
Bring the kids along to Palais des Papes and Pont d'Avignon. Get out of town with these interesting Marseille side-trips: Carrieres des Lumieres (in Les Baux de Provence) and Paroisse Cathédrale Saint Sauveur Aix-en-Provence (in Aix-en-Provence). On the 20th (Mon), observe the fascinating underwater world at Marineland and then take some stellar pictures from Colline du Chateau overlook.
