Cycling may be one of the best ways to tour Maribor, a great base for exploring the surrounding area and conquering Pohorje Mountains.
Parish Church of St. Marija - Ptujskogorska Mother of God and Lent will appeal to history buffs. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Carinthia Regional Museum - Slovenj Gradec and Ptuj Castle. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Maribor: The Photographic Studio of Josip Pelikan (in Celje) and Velenje Beach (in Velenje). There's much more to do: look for gifts at Vino Valdhuber, explore the historical opulence of Slovenska Bistrica Castle, do a tasting at Vino Gaube, and browse the different shops at Europark Maribor.

Bovec

In the north-west part of Slovenia, Bovec sits in an area known for its rich and colorful culture and history.
On the 31st (Mon), kick your exploration up a notch at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour, take in the dramatic scenery at Kozjak Waterfall, then admire the verdant scenery at Soča Valley, and finally hike along Krampež Waterfall.

You can drive from Maribor to Bovec in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and car; or do a combination of shuttle and bus. Traveling from Maribor in May, expect nights in Bovec to be about the same, around 8°C, while days are a bit cooler, around 20°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 31st (Mon) early enough to go by car to Koper.

A bridge between the Mediterranean and alpine regions of Slovenia, Koper is a small town with big appeal.
Kick off your visit on the 1st (Tue): take in the architecture and atmosphere at Hrastovlje Church of the Holy Trinity, explore the fascinating underground world of Škocjan Caves, then step into the grandiose world of Predjama Castle, and finally do a tasting at Winery Tilia Estate. On the 2nd (Wed), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: view the masterpieces at Manzioli Square, kick back and relax at Strunjan Nature Reserve, take in the spiritual surroundings of St. George's Church, then view the masterpieces at Nika's Tiny House, then get curious at Magical World of Shells Museum, and finally make a trip to Port Piran.

Traveling by car from Bovec to Koper takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a bus. Plan for somewhat warmer temperatures traveling from Bovec in May, with highs in Koper at 26°C and lows at 13°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Ljubljana.

Sitting astride the Ljubljanica River, Ljubljana is marked with picturesque bridges and a marketplace, designed by the famous architect Jože Plečnik.
Bled Castle and Bled Island are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Take a break from the city and head to Triglav National Park and Mala Osojnica.
