Fort William is the second largest settlement in the Highlands of Scotland with around 10,000 inhabitants – and the largest town: only the city of Inverness is larger.Fort William is a major tourist centre, with Glen Coe just to the south, Aonach Mòr to the east and Glenfinnan to the west, on the Road to the Isles. Get some historical perspective at Glenfinnan Viaduct and Old Inverlochy Castle. Step out of the city life by going to Steall Waterfall and Glencoe. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Fort William: Highland Titles Nature Reserve (in Duror) and Loch Shiel (in Glenfinnan). Get in touch with nature at Loch an Eilein and Cairngorm Reindeer Centre. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Fort George and Culloden Battlefield. Explore Inverness' surroundings by going to Highland Folk Museum (in Newtonmore), RZSS Highland Wildlife Park (in Kingussie) and Nairn Beach (in Nairn). There's much more to do: explore the activities along River Ness, explore the ancient world of Clava Cairns, and identify plant and animal life at Loch Garten Nature Reserve.
