For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
On the 15th (Mon), kick back and relax at Secret Beach, step off the mainland to explore Vieques Island, then kick back and relax at Navio Beach, and finally take in the waterfront at Malecon. Keep things going the next day: find your balance on the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, enjoy the sand and surf at Media Luna Beach, then take in the waterfront at Mosquito Pier, and finally identify plant and animal life at Vieques National Wildlife Refuge.

Traveling by combination of shuttle and flight from El Yunque National Forest to Isla de Vieques takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of shuttle and ferry. Expect a daytime high around 88°F in July, and nighttime lows around 79°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 16th (Tue) to allow time to travel to Rincon.

A seaside playground in the Caribbean, Rincon was a small agricultural and fishing town until it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship.
Kick off your visit on the 17th (Wed): identify plant and animal life at Tres Palmas Marine Reserve, enjoy the sand and surf at Sandy Beach, then enjoy the sand and surf at Domes Beach, then enjoy the sea views from El Faro Lighthouse, and finally visit a coastal fixture at Punta Higuera Light House. Keep things going the next day: admire the sheer force of Gozalandia Waterfall, then kick back and relax at Buye Beach, and then discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour.

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
Kick off your visit on the 19th (Fri): see the interesting displays at Museo Historico de Culebra, then step off the mainland to explore Culebrita Island, then kick back and relax at Zoni Beach, and finally stroll through Tamarindo Beach. Here are some ideas for day two: get interesting insight from Tours, then glide peacefully along the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Carlos Rosario Beach.

Getting from Rincon to Culebra by combination of car and flight takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: fly; or do a combination of car, shuttle, and flight. In July, plan for daily highs up to 90°F, and evening lows to 80°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 20th (Sat) early enough to catch the flight to San Juan.

Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S.
Visiting Scuba & Snorkeling and Playa Vega Baja will get you outdoors. You'll get in some beach time at Playa Mar Chiquita and Ocean Park Beach. Change things up with these side-trips from San Juan: Fajardo (Icacos Island & Fishing Charters & Tours). The adventure continues: glide peacefully along the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, walk around Parque de las Palomas, head off the coast to Palomino Island, and pause for some photo ops at Paseo de los Presidentes.
