Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Belém Tower and Castelo de S. Jorge. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Cabo da Roca and Convent of Christ. Venture out of the city with trips to Basilica de Nossa Senhora do Rosario de Fatima (in Fatima), Sintra (Quinta da Regaleira, Castelo dos Mouros, & more) and Batalha Monastery (in Batalha). There's still lots to do: contemplate the long history of Mosteiro dos Jeronimos and take a stroll through Bairro Alto.
