Whangarei is the northernmost city in New Zealand and the regional capital of Northland Region. You'll get in some beach time at Ruakaka Beach and Whale Bay. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Bream Head Coast Walks and Mount Manaia Track. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Whangarei: Kai Iwi Sand Lake (in Dargaville) and Ocean Beach (in Whangarei Heads). And it doesn't end there: examine the collection at Claphams Clocks - The National Clock Museum, explore the fascinating underground world of Abbey Caves, pause for some photo ops at Waka 'n' Wave Sculpture, and get engrossed in the history at Kiwi North - Kiwi House, Museum & Heritage Park.

To find more things to do, where to stay, traveler tips, and tourist information, read Whangarei online driving holiday planner.

Auckland to Whangarei is an approximately 2-hour car ride. You can also fly; or take a bus. Cap off your sightseeing on the 4th (Sun) early enough to travel to Awanui.
