The 2013 European "Capital of Culture," Marseille is the largest port city on the breezy Mediterranean coast and the second largest city in France.
Attractions like Le Parc Ornithologique de Pont de Gau and Rade de Toulon make great kid-friendly stops. Your inner history buff will appreciate Amphitheatre (les Arenes) and Notre Dame de la Mer - Église fortifiée. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Marseille: Basilique Sainte-Marie-Madeleine (in Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume), Aix-en-Provence (Hotel de Caumont - Art Centre & Vieil Aix) and Abbaye du Thoronet (in Le Thoronet). A beautiful and romantic city fit for any itinerary, Paris brims with historic associations and remains vastly influential in the realms of culture, art, fashion, food and design.
Eiffel Tower and Chateau de Chantilly are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get outdoors at Ile Saint-Louis and Île de la Cité.
