Katowice is a city in southwestern Poland, with a population of 299,910 and the center of the Silesian Metropolis, with a population of 2.2 million.Throughout the mid-18th century, Katowice had developed into a village upon the discovery of rich coal reserves in the area. Museum-lovers will appreciate Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau and Silesian Museum. Get some historical perspective at Ostrow Tumski - (Cathedral Island) and Jasna Gora. Explore Katowice's surroundings by going to Gora Zborow - Jaskinia Gleboka w Podlesicach (in Podlesice), Lesny Park Niespodzianek (in Ustron) and Wroclaw (Old Town- Historic Center, Rynek we Wroclawiu, & more). There's still lots to do: wander the streets of Nikiszowiec, explore the world behind art at Rondo Sztuki Art Gallery (Galeria Rondo Sztuki), look for all kinds of wild species at Valley of the White Wiselka, and take an in-depth tour of Museum of the History of Katowice.
