The largest of the western provinces of Thailand, Kanchanaburi Province brings visitors seeking both cultural and natural experiences. Ruins in the region date back to ancient cultures, and the area also boasts famous historical sites from the Japanese occupation of the country during World War II. The numerous national parks and conservation areas in the province protect a wealth of native plant and animal species, including tigers and elephants. The surrounding hills harbor Buddhist temples hidden in large limestone cave systems.
