Grapple with history and appreciate modernity in Hiroshima, a city known around the world for its tragic past and inspiring rebirth.
On the 18th (Thu), step into the grandiose world of Hiroshima Castle, then steep yourself in history at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, and then see the interesting displays at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. Here are some ideas for day two: steep yourself in history at Itsukushima Shrine, then head off the coast to Miyajima, and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Mikasahama Beach.

Da Nang, Vietnam to Hiroshima is an approximately 7.5-hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly; or do a combination of flight and ferry. You'll lose 2 hours traveling from Da Nang to Hiroshima due to the time zone difference. Expect slightly colder weather when traveling from Da Nang in July: highs in Hiroshima hover around 36°C, while lows dip to 28°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 19th (Fri) so you can take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Popular historic sites such as Nijo Castle and Sanjusangendo Temple are in your itinerary. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Gion and Nara Park. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kyoto: Osaka (Dotonbori & Osaka Castle) and Nara (Todai-ji Temple & Todaiji Temple Cultural Center). There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, take an in-depth tour of Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts Fureaikan, contemplate the long history of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, and make a trip to Heian Shrine.

Take a train from Hiroshima to Kyoto in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. July in Kyoto sees daily highs of 37°C and lows of 28°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 23rd (Tue) so you can take a train to Numazu.

You can take a train from Kyoto to Numazu in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of flight and train. When traveling from Kyoto in July, plan for slightly colder days in Numazu, with highs around 32°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 28°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Wed) to allow enough time to travel to Tokyo.
