The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Kyoto is known for historic sites, shopping, and classes. Your plan includes some of its best attractions: steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, make a trip to Kiyomizu-dera Temple Niomon, take a stroll through Gion, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine.

Tokyo to Kyoto is an approximately 3.5-hour train ride. You can also fly; or drive. Expect a daytime high around 19°C in November, and nighttime lows around 10°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 8th (Sun) to allow time to drive to Nara.

The country's first established capital, Nara houses some of the most storied buildings and natural attractions in Japan, with eight World Heritage Sites in total.
Venture out of the city with trips to Koya-cho (Jokiin, Mt. Koya, &more). There's much more to do: identify plant and animal life at Nara Park, enjoy some diversion at Experience YAMATO, get a dose of the wild on Japan Tour Adventure in Nara, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Todai-ji Temple.

Traveling by car from Kyoto to Nara takes an hour. Alternatively, you can take a train. In November, daily temperatures in Nara can reach 19°C, while at night they dip to 13°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Wed) to allow time to take a train to Nikko.

Nikko

A gateway to a sprawling and diverse national park, a center of Shinto spiritualism and place of Buddhist worship, an emblem of the riches and dominance of the Tokugawa shogunate: Nikko means many things to many people.
On the 12th (Thu), explore the activities along Lake Chuzenji, take in the dramatic scenery at Kegon Falls, take in the spiritual surroundings of Yakushido, contemplate the long history of Taiyuimbyo Shrine, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Nikko Tosho-gu, and finally contemplate the long history of Hongu Shrine.

Getting from Nara to Nikko by train takes about 5.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of flight and train; or drive. While traveling from Nara, expect slightly colder days and about the same nights in Nikko, ranging from highs of 15°C to lows of 13°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 12th (Thu) to allow time to take a train to Hiroshima.

Hiroshima

Grapple with history and appreciate modernity in Hiroshima, a city known around the world for its tragic past and inspiring rebirth.
Kick off your visit on the 13th (Fri): appreciate the history behind Memorial Tower to the Mobilized Students, then contemplate the long history of Atomic Bomb Dome, then get engrossed in the history at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, and finally contemplate the long history of Peace Memorial Park - Hiroshima. On your second day here, step into the grandiose world of Hiroshima Castle, take a tour by water with Boat Tours & Water Sports, and then contemplate the long history of Itsukushima Shrine.

You can take a train from Nikko to Hiroshima in 6.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of train and flight; or drive. Expect somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Nikko in November: highs in Hiroshima hover around 20°C, while lows dip to 11°C. You will have some time to spend on the 15th (Sun) before leaving for Naoshima-cho.

Naoshima-cho

On a vacation in Naoshima-cho, a charming island town in the Seto Inland Sea, you can discover its numerous contemporary art museums, sculptures, installations, and galleries.

Traveling by combination of train and ferry from Hiroshima to Naoshima-cho takes 4 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and ferry. In November, plan for daily highs up to 17°C, and evening lows to 9°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 16th (Mon) so you can travel back home.
