It's quite possible that a Baghdad holiday isn't on your list of things to do, but despite the city's reputation for turmoil, it still has plenty to offer to a daring traveler.
Spend the 21st (Thu) in some colorful company at Zawraa Park. There's still lots to do: examine the collection at The Iraq Museum, don't miss a visit to Al-Shaheed Monument, pause for some serene contemplation at Armenian Orthodox Church - St Gregory The Illuminator, and pause for some photo ops at Al-Mutanabbi Statue.

Kufa is a city in Iraq, about 170km south of Baghdad, and 10km northeast of Najaf. Start off your visit on the 23rd (Sat): don't miss a visit to Great Mosque of Kufa, explore the different monuments and memorials at Wadi Al-Salaam Cemetery, and then don't miss a visit to Shrine Amir al-mo'menin Ali bin Abi Talib peace be upon him.

Do a combination of taxi and flight from Baghdad to Kufa in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. March in Kufa sees daily highs of 30°C and lows of 15°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 23rd (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Karbala.

Karbala is a city in central Iraq, located about 100km southwest of Baghdad, and a few miles east of Lake Milh. Kick off your visit on the 24th (Sun): contemplate the long history of Shrine of the two sons of Muslim Ibn Aqeel, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Al Abbas Holy Shrine, then make a trip to Imam Hussain's Shrine, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Tal Al Zainabeiah site.

Considered one of the most cosmopolitan and westernized cities in Iraq, vibrant Sulaymaniyah boasts a strong cultural scene with a good selection of museums and educational institutions.
On the 29th (Fri), buy something for everyone on your list at City Star Mall, take an in-depth tour of Slemani Museum, then stop by Rand Gallery, and finally examine the collection at Amnasuraka Museum.
