Genoa, Italy to Lyon is an approximately 5-hour combination of bus, flight, and tram. You can also drive; or do a combination of train, flight, and tram. Traveling from Genoa in August, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit cooler in Lyon, with lows of 19°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 21st (Wed) early enough to catch the train to Lille.

On the Deûle River near the Belgium border, Lille has a very active cultural life as France's fifth-largest metropolitan area and the fourth-largest urban area with a large college student population.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Musée du Louvre-Lens and Musee Somme 1916. Do some cultural sightseeing at Musee La Piscine and Centre historique minier - Musee de la Mine. Venture out of the city with trips to Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial (in Beaumont-Hamel), Arras (Carriere Wellington & Place des Heros) and Lochnagar Crater (in Ovillers-la-Boisselle). There's much more to do: stroll the grounds of Australian War Memorial, take an in-depth tour of Historial de la Grande Guerre, and admire the landmark architecture of Old Stock Exchange.

You can take a train from Lyon to Lille in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of tram and flight; or drive. In August, Lille is little chillier than Lyon - with highs of 27°C and lows of 15°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 24th (Sat) so you can catch the train to Calais.

Overlooking the Strait of Dover, the narrowest point of the English Channel, Calais is a major port for ferry traffic between France and England as the closest French town to Dover.
Popular historic sites such as Saint-Omer Cathedral and Calais Town Hall are in your itinerary. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Blockhaus d'Eperlecques and Batterie Todt. Change things up with these side-trips from Calais: Etaples (Etaples Military Cemetery & Mareis), La chapelle des marins (in Cayeux-sur-Mer) and Boulogne-sur-Mer (La Crypte de Notre Dame & Promenade des Remparts). You can take a train from Lille to Calais in an hour. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. Expect little chillier weather when traveling from Lille in August: highs in Calais hover around 24°C, while lows dip to 15°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 27th (Tue) so you can catch the train to Strasbourg.
