Overlooking a scenic bay, the Mediterranean port city of Algiers enthralls visitors with its imposing skyline, a blend of French colonial buildings, run-down high-rises, and whitewashed Islamic architecture nestled on the hillside.
Basilique Notre Dame d'Afrique and Ketchaoua Mosque will appeal to history buffs. When in Algiers, make a side trip to see Tombeau de la Chretienne in Tipasa, approximately 1h 10 min away. There's still lots to do: admire the natural beauty at Le Jardin d'Essai du Hamma, take a stroll through Kasbah of Algiers, see the interesting displays at Musee National du Bardo, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Jamaa El Kebir.

A cultural hub of Algeria, the coastal city of Oran boasts a long and varied history, from its founding by Moorish merchants in the 10th century, through centuries of Spanish, Ottoman, and French rule, and Algeria's bloody war for independence.
On the 24th (Tue), pause for some serene contemplation at La Cathedrale du Sacre Coeur, then appreciate the extensive heritage of Place du 1er Novembre, then contemplate the long history of Fort Santa Cruz, and finally don't miss a visit to La Gare d'Oran.
