A low-rise, laid-back town of approximately 4,500 inhabitants, Margaret River serves as an ideal local base to explore the surrounding wine region.
Step out of the city life by going to Canal Rocks and Sunflowers Animal Farm. Museum-lovers will get to explore Yallingup Galleries and Boranup Gallery. Explore Margaret River's surroundings by going to Meelup Beach (in Dunsborough), Yallingup Beach (in Yallingup) and Cape Naturaliste (Sugarloaf Rock & Bunker Bay). And it doesn't end there: take a memorable drive along Caves Road, look for gifts at Gabriel Chocolate, and kick back and relax at Hamelin Bay.

You can drive from Fremantle to Margaret River in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and train; or do a combination of train and bus. Cap off your sightseeing on the 19th (Sun) early enough to go by car to Albany.

Albany

Founded as a military outpost in 1826, Albany is the oldest town in Western Australia, just barely gaining this title by being settled two years earlier than Fremantle and Perth.
Princess Royal Fortress and National Anzac Centre are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Step out of the city life by going to Little Beach and Emu Point. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Albany: Giant Tingle Tree (in Walpole) and Denmark (Elephant Rocks, Moombaki Wines, &more). There's much more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Middleton Beach, get a new perspective on things with Boat Tours & Water Sports, contemplate the long history of The Albany Convict Gaol & Museum, and get great views at Rotary Lookout Albany.

Traveling by car from Margaret River to Albany takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of bus and flight. In April, daytime highs in Albany are 25°C, while nighttime lows are 13°C. On the 23rd (Thu), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
