A small trading town in the 17th century, Kaohsiung now stands as a sprawling metropolis, its harbor representing the largest on the island.
On the 21st (Mon), take in the architecture and atmosphere at Wan Jin Church, then explore the landscape on two wheels at Seaside Park, then take in the awesome beauty at Caishan Natural Park, and finally get outside with Ai He (Love River). On the 22nd (Tue), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: see the interesting displays at Takao Railway Museum, enjoy the sand and surf at Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area, then appreciate the extensive heritage of Guanzi Hill (Guan Zi Ling), and finally see the interesting displays at National Museum of Taiwan Literature.

Toronto, Canada to Kaohsiung is an approximately 19.5-hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly; or do a combination of bus and flight. You'll lose 13 hours traveling from Toronto to Kaohsiung due to the time zone difference. Located on the southern tip of the eponymous peninsula, Hengchun serves as the entry point to Kenting National Park, often attracting more travelers than locals with its tropical beach resorts and bustling night markets.
Kick off your visit on the 23rd (Wed): look for all kinds of wild species at Kenting National Park and then look for all kinds of wild species at Kenting Long Keng Ecological Reserve. On the next day, kick back and relax at Jialeshuei Surf Beach, then stroll through Dawan Kenting Beach Park, then see the interesting displays at Taipower, and finally take a stroll through Fu'an Temple.

Traveling by car from Kaohsiung to Hengchun takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of train and bus. In September in Hengchun, expect temperatures between 37°C during the day and 30°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 24th (Thu) so you can travel to Magong.

Most visitors take a trip to Magong to see Penghu's iconic landmark, the famed Tianhou Gong Mazu temple, honoring the Chinese sea goddess and dating back to the 16th century.
Kick off your visit on the 25th (Fri): take in the dramatic natural features at Chixiyanpu, take in the dramatic natural features at Qimei Longcheng, take in the history at Dongtai Fort, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Magong Chenghuang Temple, then see the interesting displays at Museum of Penghu History, and finally kick back and relax at Local Beach.

You can do a combination of bus, flight, and taxi from Hengchun to Magong in 4 hours. Other options are to do a combination of bus, taxi, and flight; or do a combination of bus, train, flight, and taxi. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 25th (Fri) early enough to travel to Nantou.

Nantou

Nantou provides good access to the cultural and natural sites of the surrounding county of the same name.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Lugang Longshan Temple and Qingshui Station. Escape the urban bustle at Yushan National Park and Kaomei Wetland. Go for a jaunt from Nantou to Lukang to see Lukang about 44 minutes away. There's more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Zi Nan Temple and stroll through Menghuan Beach.

Traveling by combination of taxi and flight from Magong to Nantou takes 4 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of ferry and taxi; or do a combination of ferry and bus. In September, plan for daily highs up to 36°C, and evening lows to 28°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 28th (Mon) early enough to travel back home.
