Getting from Taipei to Taitung by flight takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: fly; or take a train; or drive. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Fri) so you can take a train to Kaohsiung.

Kaohsiung

Harbor City

A small trading town in the 17th century, Kaohsiung now stands as a sprawling metropolis, its harbor representing the largest on the island.
On the 7th (Sat), head outdoors with Ai He (Love River), don't miss a visit to Dragon Tiger Tower, then take an in-depth tour of Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, and finally admire the landmark architecture of Lungshan Temple.
