Fort William is the second largest settlement in the Highlands of Scotland with around 10,000 inhabitants – and the largest town: only the city of Inverness is larger.Fort William is a major tourist centre, with Glen Coe just to the south, Aonach Mòr to the east and Glenfinnan to the west, on the Road to the Isles. Kick off your visit on the 17th (Sun): appreciate the history behind Commando Monument, then admire the sheer force of Steall Waterfall, and then see the sights as you ascend with a climbing tour. Here are some ideas for day two: appreciate the views at Glen Coe, enjoy some diversion at Ice Factor, then identify plant and animal life at Highland Titles Nature Reserve, and finally contemplate the waterfront views at Loch Linnhe Picnic Area.
