As the busy capital of São Miguel, Ponta Delgada represents the most visited place on the island. Known for its historical buildings, the city offers 17th- and 18th-century convents and churches, as well as cobbled pedestrian streets and hidden squares.
Get in touch with nature at Jardim Antonio Borges and Mosteiros Beach. Tabaco da Maia Museum and Santana Astronomical Observatory will appeal to museum buffs. Explore Ponta Delgada's surroundings by going to Sao Nicolau Church (in Sete Cidades) and Piscinas Naturais (in Mosteiros). There's much more to do: see some colorful creatures with Espirito Azul, get great views at Boca do Inferno Viewpoint, pause for some serene contemplation at Igreja de Sao Jose, and see majestic marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour.

Nordeste

Nordeste is a municipality on the northeastern part of São Miguel Island in the Azores. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Lagoa das Furnas and Jose do Canto Forest Garden. Step out of the city life by going to Salto do Prego and Priolo Environmental Center. Explore Nordeste's surroundings by going to Furnas (Poca Da Dona Beija, Caldeiras Vulcânicas, &more). Green Island
Known as The Green Island, Sao Miguel is the largest of the nine islands of Azores and is considered a natural paradise. These islands were discovered in the 15th century and, according to myth, are reputed to be part of the lost empire of Atlantis. Sao Miguel's most prominent feature is a set of twin lakes, one of which is blue and the other green. Visitors also enjoy the island's park, golf courses, beaches, mountains, marina, and ocean views.
