Kaunas

— 2 nights
Situated between the Neris and Nemunas rivers, Kaunas is known for its old town, which, though smaller than the capital's, is in much better condition.
Your day by day itinerary now includes Akropolis. Kick off your visit on the 12th (Fri): don't miss a visit to Ninth Fort, contemplate the long history of Sugihara House, pause for some serene contemplation at Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul, explore the historical opulence of Kaunas Castle, then wander the streets of Old Town Kaunas, and finally buy something for everyone on your list at Akropolis. Here are some ideas for day two: admire the natural beauty at Kaunas Botanical Garden, examine the collection at National M. K. Ciurlionis Art Museum, then learn about all things military at Vytautas the Great War Museum, then see the interesting displays at Devil's Museum, and finally take a stroll through Laisves aleja (Liberty Boulevard).

To see photos, where to stay, and more tourist information, refer to the Kaunas road trip site.

Use the Route module to find travel options from your starting location to Kaunas. In February, plan for daily highs up to 1°C, and evening lows to -3°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Sun) to allow time to drive to Vilnius.
