Proud of their hometown's distinct culture and dialect, many natives of Osaka describe their city as "Japan's anti-capital." An antidote to Tokyo's hectic energy, Osaka marches to the beat of its own drum, serving as the country's longtime commercial and industrial hub.
Dotonbori and Minami (Namba) are good opportunities to explore the local culture. National Museum of Ethnology and Koji Kinutani Tenku Art Museum will appeal to museum buffs. When in Osaka, make a side trip to see Waterfall of Mino in Mino, approximately 34 minutes away. It doesn't end there: wander the streets of Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Osaka is an approximately 10.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of flight and bus. The time zone difference when traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Osaka is 1 hour. Prepare for cooler weather when traveling from Kuala Lumpur in November: high temperatures in Osaka hover around 20°C and lows are around 10°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 1st (Sun) so you can catch the train to Kyoto.

Start off your visit on the 2nd (Mon): appreciate the history behind Todai-ji Temple, see the interesting displays at Todaiji Temple Cultural Center, get engrossed in the history at Nara National Museum, then walk around Nara Park, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Nigatsu-do Temple, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Hokke-do.
