Proud of their hometown's distinct culture and dialect, many natives of Osaka describe their city as "Japan's anti-capital." An antidote to Tokyo's hectic energy, Osaka marches to the beat of its own drum, serving as the country's longtime commercial and industrial hub.
Kick off your visit on the 22nd (Wed): examine the collection at Modern Transportation Museum, take in the spiritual surroundings of Ishikiri Tsurugi Shrine, stroll around Hoshida Enchi, Osaka Prefecture Parks, then take in the views from Hoshi no Buranko Bridge, and finally make a trip to Hanjotei Comic Theater. Keep things going the next day: examine the collection at Museum of Oriental Ceramics, admire all the interesting features of Panasonic Stadium Suita, and then meet the residents at Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan.

Singapore, Singapore to Osaka is an approximately 10-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of flight, bus, and train. The time zone changes from Singapore Time to Japan Standard Time, which is usually a 1 hour difference. Traveling from Singapore in May, things will get a bit cooler in Osaka: highs are around 29°C and lows about 18°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Thu) early enough to take a train to Nara.

The country's first established capital, Nara houses some of the most storied buildings and natural attractions in Japan, with eight World Heritage Sites in total.
Kick off your visit on the 24th (Fri): take in the spiritual surroundings of Kofuku-ji Temple, get engrossed in the history at Nara National Museum, pause for some photo ops at Todai-ji Temple, then go for a walk through Nigatsu-do Urasando, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Nigatsu-do Temple, and finally walk around Nara Park.

You can take a train from Osaka to Nara in an hour. Another option is to drive. Expect a bit warmer evenings in Nara when traveling from Osaka in May, with lows around 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Fri) so you can drive to Nagahama.

Rising to prominence under feudal rule in the 16th century, the city of Nagahama sits in the northeast Shiga Prefecture, on the shores of Lake Biwa.

Drive from Nara to Nagahama in 2 hours. While traveling from Nara, expect slightly colder days and about the same nights in Nagahama, ranging from highs of 24°C to lows of 20°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 25th (Sat) early enough to go by car to Otsu.
