Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Abbey of St. Paul Outside the Walls and Le Domus Romane di Palazzo Valentini. Do some cultural sightseeing at St. Peter's Basilica and Chiesa di Santa Maria del Popolo. Venture out of the city with trips to Necropoli della Banditaccia (in Cerveteri) and Castello Orsini-Odescalchi (in Bracciano). The adventure continues: take in the spiritual surroundings of Chiesa del Gesu, steep yourself in history at Roman Forum, don't miss a visit to Santa Maria Sopra Minerva, and explore the ancient world of Domus Aurea.
