As the country's biggest port and one of the busiest in all of Europe, Hamburg has a well-deserved reputation as Germany's Gateway to the World.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Walking tours and Alster. Take a break from the city and head to Travemunde and Port of Hamburg. Get out of town with these interesting Hamburg side-trips: Lubeck (Holstentor & Lubeck Altstadt (Lubeck Oldtown)). And it doesn't end there: stroll around Planten un Blomen, get to know the fascinating history of Alter Elbtunnel, admire the landmark architecture of Speicherstadt, and get a sense of history and politics at Townhall.
