Durango

— 9 nights
Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
Family-friendly places like River Rafting & Tubing and San Juan National Forest will thrill your kids. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Durango: Mesa Verde National Park (Balcony House, Cliff Palace, &more), The Anasazi Heritage Center (in Dolores) and Cortez (Cortez Cultural Center, Notah Dineh Trading Company and Museum, &more). And it doesn't end there: whizz through the canopy at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, don't miss a visit to Four Corners Monument, take in the dramatic scenery at Treasure Falls, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Animas River Trail.

In May, daily temperatures in Durango can reach 68°F, while at night they dip to 35°F.
