Explore Chania Town's surroundings by going to Holy Trinity Monastery (Agia Triada) (in Akrotiri) and Kissamos (Sklopa & Balos Lagoon). Rethymnon combines the old-fashioned charm of a small town with proximity to long sandy beaches with all the modern conveniences usually found in big tourist resorts.
Kick off your visit on the 5th (Mon): take a leisurely stroll along Old Venetian Harbour of Rethymno, wander the streets of Rethymnon Old Town, then get engrossed in the history at Historical and Folklore Museum of Rethymno, and finally steep yourself in history at The Venetian Fortezza. On your second day here, explore the galleries of Terzisart, then pause for some serene contemplation at Monastery of Arkadi, then admire the masterpieces at Folk Museum of Spili, and finally take in the architecture and atmosphere at The Holy Monastery of Preveli.

Long a sleepy fishing settlement on Crete's northern coastline, Elounda today serves as a major travel destination, drawing vacationers with a blend of unspoiled natural scenery and luxury resorts.

Heraklion

Crete's largest city, Heraklion remains best known for its proximity to a sprawling Bronze Age archaeological site, once the center of a vanished Minoan civilization.
