San Juan acts as a more humble and provincial version of nearby Mendoza, with all the wineries and lush landscape, but less of the hustle, bustle, and international guests.
Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Archdiocesan Cathedral San Juan Bautista and Oratorio de la Difunta Correa. Step off the beaten path and head to Museo Parque Coleccion Suero and Tupeli. Museo Don Julio. There's lots more to do: see the interesting displays at Casa Natal de Sarmiento, look and learn at Observatorio Felix Aguilar, and get curious at Museo de Ciencias Naturales.

Getting from Province of La Rioja to San Juan by bus takes about 5.5 hours. Other options: drive; or fly. In July, plan for daily highs up to 20°C, and evening lows to 0°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 24th (Fri) early enough to take a bus to Mendoza.

Offering a gentle climate in an area otherwise known for its dry conditions, Merlo has become one of Argentina's increasingly popular destinations among active vacationers.
Start off your visit on the 25th (Sat): take in the spiritual surroundings of Monasterio Santa Maria en la Santisima Trinidad, then look for all kinds of wild species at Reserva Natural Provincial Mogote Bayo, and then identify plant and animal life at Algarrobo de los Aguero (Algarrobo Abuelo). Keep things going the next day: admire the masterpieces at Casa Del Poeta Antonio Esteban Aguero, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Parroquia Nuestra Senora del Rosario, and then stroll around Parque Recreativo.
