Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
You've added Richmond Bridge, Cathedral Rock Wellington Park, Russell Falls, and other attractions to your itinerary. Attractions like Port Arthur Historic Site and Mount Wellington make great kid-friendly stops. Take a break from Hobart with a short trip to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton, about 30 minutes away. Prepare for much colder weather when traveling from Cairns in September: high temperatures in Hobart hover around 18°C and lows are around 7°C. You'll have a few hours on the 7th (Sat) to wrap things up before traveling to Port Arthur.
