A good base for exploring the scenic Izu Peninsula, the town of Kawazu-cho, partly set in within a national park, remains well-known for its many hot spring resorts.
Start off your visit on the 16th (Wed): steep yourself in history at Mt. Amagi Tunnel (Former Amagi Tunnel), take in the dramatic scenery at Kawazu Nanadaru Waterfalls, take in the views from Kawazu Nanadaru Loop Bridge, then walk around Mine Onsen Daifunto Park, then meet the residents at iZoo, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Shirahama Jinja Shrine.

If you are flying in from Canada, the closest major airports are Tokyo Haneda International Airport, Narita International Airport and Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport. Expect a daytime high around 24°C in October, and nighttime lows around 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 16th (Wed) to allow enough time to travel back home.
